First outing with the Fujifilm X100v

I spent the last months of 2023 coveting the X100v. Sold out pretty much everywhere due to demand following its fame on TikTok and component supply issues, second and cameras have often been selling higher than the retail price. So when I saw London Camera Exchange had one for sale I jumped at it in a spontaneous frenzy of careless abandon.

With a camera that looks so seemingly small and basic I skipped checking out the manual and headed straight out to the beach at Lepe to give it a whirl.

First impressions - so light, so small and fit’s nicely in my coat pocket. Prefect for someone used to lugging around heavy medium format digital cameras.

It took a while for me to get used to the 28mm lens being visible in the viewfinder and trusting that it wouldn’t show in the final images. I found the autofocus took a bit of getting used to, tapping the LCD display seemed the best way to tackle it.

Manual focus was a whole different beast, every time I tried to focus it jumped to some super zoomed in view. I guess I should ave at least glanced over the basics in the manual…

All in all though it was a jolly nice first outing with this camera, albeit in auto mode. I’m looking forward to taking it out again soon!
