Home developed using JOBO C-41 colour Negative Developing Kit.
I was keen to get the first roll of the year developed however I didn't factor in that I'd stored my chemicals in the garage and they had gotten. So my trusty hot water filled washing up bowl didn't quite get the temperature up to where it should be for developing and honestly I spent most of the developing in grump because I thought I had really mucked it all up with the chemicals not getting up to the correct temp. I've never used a thermometer when colour developing before I just knew the temperature was too low from the feel of the tank in my hands. At one point I started pouring boiling water form a kettle into a bowl and dipping the tank in and out of that .♀️. I was amazed when the film appeared to be developed ok (maybe not as contrasty as it 'should' be but good enough!) The JOBO C-41 chemicals appear to be pretty forgiving for quite the margin of error.
The year begins with gales and storms across the UK as Storm Henk sweeps across the country bringing disruption to many areas. Here in the New Forest we seem to be avoiding the worst of it however the ground remains sodden from previous rain and January 1st is a damp, dreary affair.
Although not most colourful or exciting start to the year, a walk through Denny Wood today was enjoyable enough. There was much squelching through mud but I somehow managed to stay upright for the entire 9km route.
I chose my trusty Nikon FM2n for day 1 as it already had a roll of film loaded (though I wasn't sure what film until I unloaded it). I was hoping for some sort of dark and moody Ilford black and white film however it turned out to be good old Portra. As much as I like that film I do feel like the dreary weather naturally lends itself better to the contrasty mood of black and white film. But not to worry, there's 365 days left to shoot a black and white roll...
