We recently visited New Forest Lavender, a gem of a lavender farm that's located just off the A36 to Salisbury. A small lavender farm, there's just the one field of lavender to see and though it's not anywhere near the size of the Hitchin Lavender Farm that we visited a few weeks back, it did through a couple of extra delights into the mix for me.
Firstly, the tearooms, cake-gasm alert people! The tearooms also sells a few sweet lavender goodies such as lavender shortbread, jars of Lavender Sugar and Lavender Rice Pudding (lavender rice pudding -I've never heard of that before but how good does it sound?!) And what a beautiful view to admire whilst you are sitting enjoying a slice of the most delicious and ample-sized cake that you'll taste in The New Forest...
Secondly, the nursery, which sells a huge variety of plants at reasonable prices (far more reasonable than the large garden centre across the main road). And so this post is one that was intended to be dedicated to the delights of lavender and instead is dedicated to the smashing nursery.
FYI If you fancy, click on any image to see the caption and if you click on the square images they'll open up in a lightbox so you can view them full size.
New Forest Lavender sell a wide range of David Austin roses, a perfect accompaniment for bumble-bee attracting lavender. Honestly, I had no idea the vast range of roses there are - some so fancy they resembled peonies, I can see that roses is something I shall be looking into more.
Twas the perfect way to spend an hour on a Summers morning.
