I'm a Friend of Exbury Gardens. I love that term, a 'friend' of the gardens. It always makes me smile when I pull out my card for free entry, I imagine myself skipping hand in hand with some tall daisies that have sprouted legs, or chatting over a coffee with a silver birch. Mind you I do have an over-active imagination. Anyhow, I much prefer the term 'friend' than 'member', you don't even want to ask me what the term 'member' makes me think of....
Swiftly moving back to the hydrangeas. Exbury Gardens has a Hydrangea Walk, a pathway lined either side with dozen and dozens of them and I enjoyed a very quiet mornings stroll through them last week. The gardens were quieter than usual, I need to savour this peace before the Summer holiday chaos. As seems to be the case of late, I was a week or two too early to catch them all in full bloom but I rather like the shots I got even so.
Kitty and I plan to return in the Summer hols for a 'girls drawing morning'. We are investing in a couple of plain sketch pads and, my favourite thing to draw with, ultra-fine tip black ink pens. It's something that we have been chatting about doing for a while now. Kitty and I enjoy drawing what we see at home. I really think it'll be lovely to spend time outdoors, sitting on a picnic rug, possibly with a cheeky jam tart and thermos of tea, our shoes and socks off, toes feeling the breeze, drawing the nature around us.
Roll on the school Summer holidays I say! Do you have any special things that you plan to do with your child / children over Summer?
