At a recent visit to Hiller Gardens I spied a sign for Houghton Lodge & Gardens, I over-excitedly took a snap of it on my iPhone and made a mental note to find out more when I got home. True to my word I did and was thrilled to find that indeed there was new gardens to discover. Yesterday afternoon I took a break from painting the garage (oh my rock and roll lifestyle) and popped along for a look about. What a treat awaited me!
Friendly staff in the tea rooms explained that visitors can just wander anywhere, back a couple of areas marked 'Private'. With 15 acres of gardens and water meadows set alongside the River Test along with alpacas. I was surprised at just how much colour is still out there to be found, I've been so distracted with Autumn leaves that I'd forgotten the pinks, oranges, yellow and purples that are still out.
The sun was in the super-bright-I-am-going-to-glare-so-every-photo-you-take-looks-over-exsposed-and-horrid phase, but I'll return soon to get some better shots.
I'll write a proper post about the lodge and gardens soon, the building itself is magnificent. Totally the sort of place I day dreamed about living in as a child... two words for you - CHIMNEY POTS!
