Since my eldest daughter Holly moved in with us we've both been keen to try out smoke grenades. Finally a day came where we were both free and the weather dry, so we headed out with 3 smoke grenades for a trial run.
The smoke grenades we chose were the pull wire variety, and only two of the three actually worked (annoyingly we were saving the best colour till last and that was the one that failed).
Once you pull the wire to start there are sparks, as explained on the smoke grenade itself, but what wasn't explained is that the smoke does sting the eyes a little when it comes close to the face. Not a huge issue, however I'm glad that I denied my younger daughter Kitty's requests to join in.
I'm really glad that we did this trail run before we take the photos we've been planning because it is something that take a couple of tries to get comfortable and confident with, for both the model and the photographer.
Changing the hues of the smoke post-process in Lightroom was pretty cool too - nice to be able to manipulate the colours!
